AP Boot Camp
From Monday, July 18 – Wednesday, July 20, McLean High School will hold an AP Boot Camp, for students in grades 10 - 12. The AP Boot Camp will target students about to take an Advanced Placement course for the first time.
AP Boot Camp is an interactive leadership conference where students discuss and practice the qualities required for success in AP classes, college and in the corporate world. This event will focus on developing five attributes: Teamwork, Communication, Organization, Reading, and Problem Solving (T-CORPS). This program is intended to be a hands-on, cooperative team-building program that actively engages students in the development and use of these skills. Boot Camp has four goals:
Introduce students to the unique academic challenges of AP coursework.
Guide students in skill development with a focus on teamwork, communication, organization, reading, and problem solving
Discuss the practical application of these skills inside and outside the classroom
Provide opportunities for students to develop a support network with their peers
Interested students can register at this link.
Summer is a great time to dive into a good book or get ahead on the reading you'll be doing during the year. Although summer reading is optional, we encourage all our students to dive into a book or two this summer! You can find the texts that will be read throughout the year, organized by course in addition to “choice-reads” recommended by the English department on our school website. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to get ahead on your reading or simply pick up a book of your choice and enjoy the relaxing pastime of lounging in the shade with a good book.
Continuity of Learning site - this website has been created by our teachers at McLean. This is for students who are entering a class to work on skills if they so choose. To use this site students must log into their fcpsschools.net account.

Tutor.com - this is a service that FCPS has paid for and all students have access to it. Students can connect online any time, any place, and in most K-12 subjects for however long they need. Tutoring may be on-demand and/or scheduled at a time convenient for the student and/or family.
Tutoring is focused instruction provided to students in a one-on-one format (voice and/or text chat). Tutors will focus on developing student’s strengths and capabilities in reading, mathematics, or other specified subjects. Tutoring services may be accessed before, during or after school hours and/or weekends.
Tutor.com also has ACT and SAT practice for students. Here is a video to see how to use the service.
As we plan for next year, our focus is on helping students to plan and organize themselves on the digital platforms available to them. In this vein, we will be transitioning from paper planners to the use of the digital calendar found on Schoology. The benefits of using the Schoology calendar include the auto-population of assignments entered by students’ teachers, the ability for students to manage multiple calendars for a variety of courses and groups, and the option to manually enter assignments and events as necessary. Training videos will be provided to students at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year to ensure students are adequately prepared to use their Schoology calendar for all of their planning and organizational needs.
