The Highlander News Magazine Wins a Pacemaker

The Highlander newsmagazine was honored with a Pacemaker award at the National Scholastic Press Association/Journalism Education Association convention in Dallas on Nov. 18. Since 1927, many have considered the Pacemaker to be scholastic journalism’s highest honor. The Highlander is one of just 26 high school newspapers/newsmagazines nationwide to win the Pacemaker this year and the only one from Virginia.

Sophomore Performs in All-National Orchestra

Sophomore Steve Han is a member of the McLean High School Philharmonic Orchestra who participated in both the Northern Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra and the Virginia All-State Orchestra last school year, which led to the opportunity to audition for the All-Nationals level. After auditioning among hundreds of other student musicians around the country, Steve was chosen to perform in the National Association for Music Educator’s All-National Orchestra in Orlando over Thanksgiving break. Essentially, this is an ensemble formed from top musicians in each state throughout the U.S.

Congratulations on this accomplishment!
