Ms. Werfel Recognized at 2018 Excellence Awards!

Congratulations to our school psychologist, Ms. Beth Werfel, who was recognized in the "Impact on Others" category at the 2018 FCPS Excellence Awards Ceremony for her efforts in prioritizing mental health and wellness. 

The FCPS Excellence event was held at Fairfax High School on October 16 and was attended by Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand, members of the FCPS Leadership Team, members of the FCPS School Board, and other distinguished guests. Ms. Werfel was recognized during an informal reception and a formal ceremony. The following excerpt from Ms. Werfel's nomination packet was read while she received her certificate from Dr. Brabrand, Assistant Superintendent, Region 2 Fabio Zuluaga, and members of the School Board.

At McLean HS, Ms. Werfel has made mental health and wellness a priority by providing training to students and staff, leading counseling groups, and working with parents, private providers, and local nonprofit organizations. She sponsors the school-based Minds Matter and Girls Leadership Committees, and provides ongoing training on mindfulness activities for students and staff. Ms. Werfel is also a regular presenter at the annual FCPS Mental Health and Wellness Conference, speaking to parents on a variety of subjects aimed at fostering youth mental health awareness and promoting resiliency. Ms. Werfel is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated, and she approaches all aspects of her work with sensitivity and care. Her colleagues praise her as an extraordinary school psychologist, and an invaluable asset to the students, families, and staff she serves.
